Zach's Shack

Hunter is the goat. In the preverbal “greatest of all time” sense. I’ve worked here, eaten here… must have been hundreds of times now… and I just can’t seem to escape the delicious hold Zack’s Shack has on me. This isn’t a dive bar, or a hot dog bar, but more like a beacon of hope. Where friends go to make new friends. If you’re a square go back to the Bible Belt. We will be having the time of our lives at this particular shack. 🥳🎉🤙🏻🔥

Best hot dog in Portland/Vancouver. I like the New York with their red spicy sausage. One time I went the bun was kind of hard and dry. I think it's because they put it on the grill. I prefer steamed. They offer a smattering of beers and a few pedestrian cocktails. Not many tables. Having said that, great hot dog joints are rare. Let's try to keep this one around. Fantastic copy of a classic Chicago style hot dog. Super exited to have found it. They got all the right ingredients down with awesome flavors. A must was the poppy seed buns and select salt. Cons: customer service could be better (won’t get into it); although I love celery salt, they put a little too much of it on the dogs; buns were not steamed.

I used to really like going here, but the last two times have just been very unpleasant experiences. Both time it was just the staff (or maybe friends of the staff?) sitting at the bar and I was made to feel as if I had intruded into their private get-together and they all sort of just looked at me while I ate my hot dog and drank my beer and I ended up leaving pretty quickly. Service was also quite slow considering I was the only paying customer in the restaurant. Food also seemed to have dipped in quality. Unfortunate because I really used to love coming here, but I’ve talked to some other folks and they agreed that the vibes are wack now and the staff acts like they don’t want you to be there. Not saying that I’m expecting a royal treatment at a hot dog place, but it would be nice to not feel like I have to interrupt their conversation in order to get service.
